Black Wells Blackwells

The precise location of Black Wells is unknown, but the rental on some lands were advertised for sale in The Irish Times on 23 January 1912: “Whitsitt’s Estate… Lot 3 – £26 18s. 3d. per annum, a well-secured rent, with Landed Estate Court title, arising out of 12 acres and 23 perches of land, situated upon the Crumlin road (Main road), adjoining the Village of Crumlin, with buildings thereon, being part of the lands of CRUMLIN, called Well Land, in Blackwell Park, in the Barony of Upper Cross, HELD FOR EVER, subject to £17 15s. 2d. per annum, and 15s. 7d. per annum tithe rent-charge for 5 years, and let and producing £4 15s. per annum. Poor Law Valuation £29 10s.per annum.”

The Richardson family are in the 1911 census in “Part of Crumlin”, which means the townland of Crumlin excluding the area that the census considered as “Crumlin Town”. They used “Blackwells, Crumlin Road” as an address.
