First proposed in 1938. Then in 1945-1949 proposed to put in a new library in Kimmage and Dolphin’s Barn.
Jan 3rd 1950 – “Plans were already fairly advanced for the provision of public libraries at the Dolphin’s Barn end of Crumlin Road and another at the Kimmage end of Sundrive Road.” [REVIEW ARTCILE]
Money allocated in 1953 for provision of library in Dolphin’s barn. In 1954 the site was approved.
February 17, 1963 – Plans for a library at Dolphin Barn to service Crumlin-Drimnagh area. A Mobile library will be in place in the interim.
1966 – THE Cultural Committee of Dublin City Council has decided to approve a plan for the erection of a £41,000 library at Dolphin’s Barn. The meeting was informed that of this amount, 50 per cent would be recouped from State funds.
1968 – Crumlin / Drimnagh tenants told they would not be getting a library in their area but the next best thing, one on their bounday. This would be the first library built in Dublin City since 1939.
1968 May 01 – Tender accepted by James Geraghty Builders.
1971 May 06 – Library opened.
