Lisle House (Female Lunatic Asylum) (Red Brick House)

Formerly the home of John Lysaght, created Baron Lisle in 1758. His wife was a daughter of Joseph Deane, a local landowner, who probably built the house around 1702 .

Owner / Occupier Information:

Occupants after the death of Joseph Deane included Captain the Hon. Richard Allen, Philip Walsh, K.C., Lord Lisle (mid 18th century), a Mr Orde (1798) who ran a boarding school (probably in the house), the Rev. Alexander Leney (who ran a classical academy there), and William Hayes. A “Female Lunatic Asylum” was housed there from the 1850s or earlier.
