Boy Rescued From Dump
December 7, 1944
A 13-year-old boy, William Dodd of 39 Kells Road, narrowly escaped death this morning after being buried under a fall of refuse at the Sundrive Road Corporation dump in Kimmage. The incident occurred while he was gathering cinders.
William left his home around 10 a.m. and was later discovered by a group of youths who noticed a sack near the dump. Upon investigation, they found William buried beneath the debris.
Emergency assistance was promptly summoned, and by the time the Fire Brigade ambulance arrived, the boy had already been freed from the refuse. He was taken to Meath Hospital, where he was treated for shock and facial injuries.
The quick response of the youths and emergency services likely saved the boy’s life.
