Military Lorry Reported Abandoned and Burned

March 27, 1921

An armoured military motor lorry is reported to have been found burned and derelict on the Crumlin road, in the vicinity of the Naas road, yesterday morning. When seen there was no one near it, and only the bare skeleton of the car was left. Steel plating and the wheels of the engine were the only relics of what appeared to have once been a powerful motor vehicle. In front of the derelict car an instrument closely resembling a jemmy is started to have been observed.

NO OFFICIAL INFORMATION
Inquiries in official quarters last night failed to secure any specific information regarding the lorry. It will be recalled that it was recently reported in Dublin newspapers that the description had been circulated among the police of a military motor lorry, valued at over £1,000 which had disappeared. This vehicle left the Royal Barracks for Collinstown Aerodrome on the night of Feb. 14th, when Francis Teeling his sensational escape from Kilmainham Jail, and up to quite recently it had not been traced.
