September 16, 1942
In a tragic accident at Sundrive Road, Christopher Lacey, a 44-year-old married man from 16 Stannaway Road, Dublin, died after being buried beneath a Corporation rubbish dump. Lacey had been searching for cinders to heat his home when the dump unexpectedly collapsed on him. Despite being rescued by nearby workers after two boys raised the alarm, Lacey succumbed to his severe injuries, including a fractured spine, at the Meath Hospital. The City Coroner, Dr. MacErlean, concluded that his death was caused by shock and heart failure due to the injuries sustained in the collapse.
